It’s been a Blast!

I suppose all things must come to an end, including the One Pebble Project. I’m still accepting stragglers but officially the One Pebble Project has come to a close. I’m leaving up the blog so everyone can enjoy the pebble pics and I may occasionally post on any noteworthy pebbles I find along life’s journey.

Thank you to everyone who participated and brightened my day with their letters and pebbles! :-D

Big Moon Rising ACEO

Big Moon Rising ACEO

That’s me talking in my sleep, wondering what happened to all the pebbles I was promised!! ;-) Just kidding. Things did take a nose dive here though didn’t they? I don’t take it personally. The truth is life went a little haywire. I had to see a new specialist for some worrying symptoms, only to find out it was my medication causing the problems! Now I’ve stopped that medication and I’m waiting for another appointment with a new Rheumatologist. In the meantime energy levels have dropped, joint pain has increased, back pain has increased, other pains have cropped up–so the past few months have been strained to say the least. The other symptoms, neuromuscular in nature, have disappeared and my blood pressure appears to be normalizing again. Now if only my hair would stop falling out.  No, I’m not joking about that. :-(

Despite everything pebble deliveries are still welcome and might even cheer me up!!

It’s quite simple, you send me a pebble and I send you a free, original ACEO. :-D You can find all the details on the One Pebble site under Send me a Pebble.

As always, if I’m not here you can find me on my website, Amanda Makepeace: Art, Writing, Life.

Dreaming of Pebbles

mailboxI found myself standing in my old neighborhood. The one I lived in as a teenager. It felt like an October evening, cold but not frigid. Before me stood our old, black mailbox and inside were pebbles!

In the dream I thought to myself, “How did they figure out my new address?” :-D

When I woke up this morning I decided it was time to put up the new address for the One Pebble Project.

So if you’ve been holding onto those pebbles you need to no longer!! Let the pebbles start rolling in! :-D

The are the first pebbles I received from Jean Levert-Hood.

A Piece of Prince Edward Island

This week I received pebbles from the talented Debra Percival, a Canadian Printmaker and fellow WWAO member. Debra recently moved home but took the time to pop these wonderful pebbles in the post:

Prince Edward Island Sandstone

When I first opened the small organza bag holding the pebbles I noted their red color and rough texture. I’ve sinced read up on Prince Edward Island, learning that this red sandstone is one of it’s hallmark traits. Can you imagine red beaches!?

Debra has promised to send me some photographs she has taken of the island. I can’t wait! :-D

Your free ACEO will be with your shortly. Thank you for sending such a wonderful piece PEI.

If you’d like to send me a pebble and receive a free ACEO just check out my page, Send me a Pebble.

Pebbles on Zazzle!

I have a Zazzle store that I’ve used to create everything from mugs, cards and magnets for my art and photography. Today I created the first mug that features pebbles from the One Pebble Project!!

The pebbles on this wonderful mug you might recognize as those from Fran Hopkins of Southampton, UK.

In the coming days I will add more pebbles to postcards, magnets and mugs. So be on the look out! :-)

The Gems of Essex

When I first began this project I invisioned a few people, mostly people I knew, sending me a lone pebble in exchange for an ACEO. I should have known it wouldn’t be that simple, nothing ever is when it comes to me. My very first package contained not one pebble but almost a dozen!! And since then I have received many packages with many pebbles inside. Of course all of them are welcome. The project may be called One Pebble, but more than one is just fine too! :-)

This week I received another wonderful multi-pebble donation from Essex, UK!! Gill (beingmaisie) has been following my blog for at least the last month I believe. She sent me 8 wonderful pebbles I’ve been calling the Gems of Essex. To let these gems show their true color I decided to immerse them in water before photographing. This way you can all see what they must have looked like before they were taken from the seaside home.

That stone in the center is just stunning, isn’t it?

Thank you so much Gill!! Your free ACEO is going out in the post tomorrow! :-D

Now for a more serious FYI –>

Some of you know I’ve been having some issues with my Back and Neck. Will in early July I will be seeing a Neurosurgeon to evaluate my spine. As of today I know with certainty that I have four herniations just in my neck – ick!! Chances are high that I have one or more in my lower back too. Hopefully, I will not need surgery.

I wanted everyone to know that I may be a bit slow with my posts and mailings. I am in a lot of pain but hopefully they will be able to fix me up. If I have a contact email from you I will let you know when I receive your package and most likely I will post your ACEO within that week. When the project started I was mailing out ACEOs the very next day or sometimes the same day! Unfortunately, some days are very bad days now and I need rest off my feet.

But please keep those pebbles coming!! :-D

More from the British Isles

This past Friday I received my second pebble delivery from the UK!! I do believe it was also my largest pebble delivery, totaling 17 pebbles. They came from Fran of Southampton. She collected this wonderful assortment of pebbles from Calshot beach. You can just make out the Isle of Wight in the distance; which I too could see on a clear day from Poole Harbour.

Look at all those pebbles!!

Fran, like me, has a passion for pebbles and couldn’t resist taking some photos the morning she went in search of pebbles for my project. :-D

Can you spot one of the pebbles she sent me?

I just love the pebbles she sent!!

calshot2

There is so much inspiration in these pebbles!! Fran pointed out to me a bit about some of pebbles and how she found them. I’m going to share one because I had to research it a bit myself. The stone next to the red pebble is called a Hag Stone (it has a hole straight through it).  They are usually glassy stones (if you could see the other side of mine you can see that it is) and the hole is naturally occurring. The rest is from Wikipedia:

. . .believed to have magical powers such as protection against eye diseases or evil charms, preventing nightmares, curing whooping cough, and of course recovery from snakebite. According to popular conception, a true adder stone will float in water.

I’m going to have to test that!!

Thank you so much Fran! Your free ACEO is in the post, along with another little surprise, but I’m not telling what it is – yet!  :-)

Triangular Pebble?!

I know I said that pebbles come in all shapes and sizes, but is this for real? A fellow artist and friend, Heide Hibbard, sent me some wonderful pebbles from California, and of them happens to be triangular. When I first opened the little baggy holding the pebbles I thought to myself, “Is this for real?” It sure is.

heide1

The question is, how did it form? Was it through natural processes or was this someone’s handywork? Maybe Heide will tell all. :-D

heide2

The pebbles themselves seem very porous. This morning I conducted my own little experiment and found that you can write with them (reddish brown). I’m really curious about what type of stone they are and if I can’t figure it out with my Geology reference I may hunt down my old Geology Professor at the University.

heide3

Thank you so much Heide for these wonderful and certainly unique pebbles. I now have my first, and maybe only triangular pebble! Your free ACEO is on its way!

Don’t forget to check out Heide’s website of wonderful Art. You can also find Heide on Etsy at http://heidehibbard.etsy.com.
